Daisy's Blue Ricefish Group Special (Oryzias Woworae)

Daisy's Blue Rice Fish should be kept in groups to truly make them shine - you'll be rewarded with a confident group and fascinating natural behaviour. 

Daisy's Blue are not Cold water fish, and will not survive our South-African winters outside.  Unlike most Medaka ricefish from Japan, Daisy's Blue Rice Fish (Oryzias woworae) are a tropical species from Sulawesi, Indonesia. outside. They need tropical temperatures: 22–28°C.  

They are excellent dither fish, helping shy species such as bristlenose plecos, corydoras, and other timid tank mates feel more confident and active. One of their most charming traits is how interactive they are; they quickly learn to recognize you and will eagerly gather at the glass, especially at feeding time, rushing excitedly for food. It’s a species I feel is still greatly underrated, and many hobbyists are missing out on one of the most enjoyable and rewarding little fish to keep.

What makes them even more fascinating is the fact that Daisy’s Blue Rice Fish are sexually dimorphic (meaning males and females look noticeably different), making them both fascinating and easy to observe. Adult females can often be seen carrying a visible cluster of eggs in the mornings before carefully depositing them among plants or spawning mops. Meanwhile, males intensify into deep navy and almost black-blue shades when displaying to females, creating a beautiful and captivating natural behavior to watch.

Diet
Daisy’s Blue Rice Fish are omnivorous and readily accept a wide variety of foods. Because of their small mouths, it’s best to offer smaller-sized foods such as high-quality micro pellets, fine powdered foods, and small frozen or live foods. Baby brine shrimp are an absolute favorite and will always get them excited, while daphnia and grindal worms are also eagerly taken.

- May breed in mature planted aquariums
- Safe with adult shrimp, however very small shrimplets may be seen as food if discovered, so providing your shrimp with plenty of moss like Subwassertang will help improve shrimplet survival.  I keep them with shrimp and the shrimp colony keeps growing larger.
