Grindal Worm Culture (Enchytraeus buchholzi)

Your fish will go wild for Grindal worms – they absolutely love this fun, wriggling live food!

Grindal worms are small, nutritious live worms (like mini earthworms). High in protein, making them excellent for promoting growth, colour, and breeding.  Suitable for all fish sizes – from nano to medium and large fish. Easy to culture at home and provide a constant, reliable supply of live food.

How to Care for Your Grindal Worm Culture

Container & Bedding
My culture comes in a plastic container with a lid.  The lid has air holes to allow fresh air in.  Air holes are covered with a fine mesh to prevent pests like mites investing the culture.  The substrate is damp coco peat from Stodels, with a layer of coco coir on top. The coco coir makes a soft, airy surface where the worms like to come up and feed.  It also helps to keep food clean  and prevent mould from forming.

Temperature
• Ideal range: 20–25°C
• Avoid direct sunlight or overheating, as worms die quickly above 28°C.

Feeding the Culture
• My preferred food to feed is soaked cat pellets. They are high in protein and the grindals thrive on it. Avoid overfeeding as mould forms easily on uneaten food.  Only add more food once the previous portion is nearly gone.

Harvesting
• The worms will go to the surface to eat and gather on the plastic cover. You can dip the cover into your tank to feed your fish.  Always rinse the cover properly before returning it.

Maintenance
• Keep culture moist, not wet.
• Remove any mouldy food immediately.
• Refresh bedding every 4–6 weeks or whenever its starts to look too wet of when its gets smelly.
