I’ve hand-selected these pieces for their interesting shapes and hardscape potential.

Mopani wood is a favourite among fish keepers because it sinks straight away, making setup quick and easy. Its dense structure makes it durable and long-lasting, while the natural twists and curves create perfect spaces for attaching moss, Anubias, Java fern, and Bucephalandra.

It’s also a must-have for many aquatic species. Suckerfish love grazing on it, while shrimp and snails enjoy using it as a feeding ground, shelter, and place to explore.

Before use, it is recommended to rinse and boil the wood. This helps clean it and releases most of the tannins, reducing water discolouration in your aquarium.

Why I love it: It adds an instant natural look to the aquarium and creates beautiful structure, shelter, and depth in any aquascape. In my experience, Mopani is also one of the most stable woods to use — I’ve found it far less likely to develop “fuzzy” growth that can sometimes appear on other driftwood types.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0801/9053/7981/files/BabyFins_Durbanville_CapeTown_TropicalFishStore_MopaniWood_MopaneWood.jpg?v=1783768887
